Richmond Virginia Street Art Festival 2012

Location: Shockoe Flood Wall Power Plant

Date: April 12 – 15 , 2012

The RVA Street Art Festival will bring together more than a dozen national street artists to create an outdoor gallery along Richmond’s James River Power Plant Building and Floodwall. The Festival will be centered from the Power Plant building and Floodwall near Vistas on the James and Pipeline Overlook. Invited artists will create their art on gigantic 18′ x 32′ murals.

The festival’s goal is to show the creative power of street art, liven up an other wise drab floodwall, and attract people and tourists to the outdoor art gallery that will showcase the Canal Walk and Shockoe Bottom neighborhood. The murals will remain in place for two years time when the festival will become a biennial event.

The festival will begin with an event at the VMFA with artists on stage discussing their work and the work of the collaboration.

The festival on Friday through Sunday will be centered between the Canal Walk Turning Basin and Power Plant building where spectators can come and watch the artists create their art.

The festival on Saturday, April 14 will feature the best of local Richmond with local breweries, food, music, and art on hand. View full schedule›

A whimsical bamboo sculpture in the garden

The crystal blue skies and sun-drenched beaches of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina were blanketed with a menacing plume of smoke over the Independence Day holiday.

The large, dark smoke cloud was produced by a marsh fire in Dare County, that was believed to have been sparked by holiday fireworks. Fire officials said that the fire encompassed 30 to 40 acres off Little Colington Island, located west of Kill Devil Hills.

Officials set controlled fires to combat the fire and limit the smoke impact, and the fire was expected to burn itself out. While no one and no property was impacted by the blaze, the intimidating smoke created an eery scene for the holiday beach-goers.

Our second time lapse film for artist Patrick Dougherty installed January 2012 at the Bay Area Discovery Museum is a living sculpture called Peekaboo Palace and was a new venture for RichmondTimeLapse.com as we were not onsite for this job.

We shipped our equipment out west to San Francisco and the staff and volunteers did a wonderful job setting up and maintain the equipment. With some coaching over the phone and some help from Andy (Pat’s assistant) with the GoPro close up shots we were able to edit this time lapse together!
